Home Care, Caregiver Seeking - My wife of 40 years and I have just finished a 2 year assignment caring for our 72 yr. old brother-in-law after his stroke. When we brought him home from the nursing home he couldn't feed himself or even roll over in the bed. With 24/7 care we got him back on his feet in 10 months. His doctor, wife and minister will testify that he would not be alive today without our help. We learned to give shots, change diapers and bath him. We worked with the therapists and even helped develop exercises for him. He didn't believe he'd ever walk again but today gets around with a cane just fine. We had a setback at the 14th month when he fell and broke his hip and shoulder but once again with therapy, patience and love he is now living at an independent level.In addition to co-ordinating medical providers and administering meds we can cook, clean and maintain the home. We have no problem with any household chores and treat the home like our own. In the first few months we fenced in the yard for her dog and ours and built a deck so that he could be wheeled outside in the sun. We still do all of the yard work, get wood for the stove, cook most of the meals and do all of the laundry and cleaning. We can help with rehabilitation and encourage independence. We respect privacy and the dignity of our patient. We are Christians and live our faith without telling others how to live theirs. We feel that God has led us to this and know that he will guide us through anything.
